Itinerary

Day 1 UK to Johannesburg

Day 2 Kaingo Private Game Reserve

A local Just You representative will meet you on arrival in Johannesburg and accompany you on the transfer to the Kaingo Private Game Reserve, where you will stay at the Royal Morubusi River Lodge. Located in the stunning Waterburg Biosphere, a UNESCO site renowned for it’s rugged beauty and diverse landscape, this is South Africa’s original savannah biosphere reserve and is home to many different types of wildlife. On arrival you will be greeted by the lodge team who will warmly host you for the duration of the stay. Enjoy a welcome drink with your fellow travellers before embarking on your first game drive this afternoon. A welcome dinner will be served this evening. Meals included: D

Day 3 Kaingo Private Game Reserve

After an early rise, we'll enjoy a South African rusk and coffee on the veranda of the lodge before heading out on our first morning game drive. We’ll be guided by expert naturalists as we look to spot the Big 5: lions, leopards, elephants, buffalos, and rhinos. As the Kaingo Private Game Reserve has such a focus on research and conservation you’ll also learn so much about the animal’s habitat, behaviours, and their role in the eco-system. The reserve has a low tourism footprint so you may well not see another vehicle on your safari drives.
We’ll make sure to stop for morning coffee at one of the many spectacular viewpoints to take in this beautiful setting, and breakfast will be waiting for us back at the lodge before spending the day at leisure. A light meal will be served daily at lunch time.
Your lodge is situated on the banks of the Mokolo River, meaning “deep and silent” in the Tswana language. This afternoon we will board a sundowner boat cruise led by an expert local guide to experience up-close encounters with animals and the diverse fauna and flora of the region. Keep your eyes peeled for hippos, crocodiles and a variety of birdlife as you cruise the tranquil waters an enjoy a bite to eat and a drink. Meals included: B,L,D

Day 4 Kaingo Private Game Reserve

After coffee this morning, we will set off on a bush walk in the company of an expert guide. We’ll focus on the often-missed smaller details like animal tracks and signs and encounter the Big 5 on foot if you are lucky. At the end of the walk we'll enjoy a unique brunch next to the river before returning to the lodge for time at leisure.
Spend the afternoon by the pool or you may wish to relax and treat yourself to a spa treatment in the lodge’s amazing facility, which has serene river views, enhanced by the distant sounds of hippos.
Later, we will depart on our first evening game drive to see some more of the Big 5, or perhaps several endangered and rare species such as Cheetah, Tessebe, Brown Hyena and Pangolin. During the safari drive we will learn more about diverse biomes and the unique geology of the area. We will find the perfect spot for a sundowner to watch the sun set over this incredible landscape while listening to the call of the wild in the distance.
During your stay we’ll make the most of the setting by serving dinner either in the outdoor lantern-lit boma, with tables set up around the fire, or dine to the experience of local dancers and drummers on the riverside deck with views of the Mokolo and its wildlife. There is also a cosy bar and lounge with an open fire for chillier evenings. Meals included: B,L,D

Days 5 - 8 Kaingo Private Game Reserve

Settle into a comfortable routine of sunrise and sunset game drives each day in this spectacular and diverse reserve. In the morning you may explore the grassy plains and savannah areas which are home to animals such as giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and impala. In the evenings you could encounter elephants or lions while exploring the mountain bush-veld with sweeping views to far horizons.
During the day, in between breakfast and daily high tea, you can relax and enjoy the facilities at your lodge. There are also activities such as birdwatching or fishing on the Mokolo River that could be arranged with the friendly lodge staff.
Research and conservation in the Kaingo reserve is at the heart of all the activities at Royal Morubisi. The team are deeply committed to conservation and research and the full tourism income goes towards positive conservation. On one evening during your stay you’ll be able to talk with one of the team about the ongoing projects and the contribution your stay makes to the reserve. Meals included: B,L,D
